Essentials of neurophysiology

This material is based on teaching material for bachelor students Technical Medicine at the University of Twente and complements the book “Essentials of Neurophysiology”.

A more advanced treatment  of several concepts is available in “/Introduction to Neural Networks”

1. Excitable cells Essentials of the generation of the membrane potential. Discusses diffusion and drift currents. Derivation of the Nernst potential and GHK potential equation. Voice is in Dutch, slides are in English.

2. Propagation of the action potential.  Discussion of how action potentials are propagated. Role of myelin. Saltatory conduction. Voice and slides in English

3.EMG-part 1. Some basic aspects of the motor system; anatomy, relevant connections. Voice and slides in Dutch (sorry for some viewers!)

4. EMG-part 2:  Introduction to Electromyography.

5. The neuromuscular junction. Discusses essentials of the neuromuscular transmission and some diseases: Lambert-Eaton myasthenia syndrome and myasthenia gravis.

8. Clinical decision making: Bayes and ROCs.
