The history of the EEG dates book to the end of the 18th century. At that time, Richard Caton (1842-1926) performed various experiments to record brain waves from the brain of cats and dogs. In July 1875 Caton reported to the British Medical Association in Edinburgh (Caton 1875) that he observed electrical impulses from the surfaces of living brains.
